F. Otis Stephen, MD, FACG, is the Director of the Small bowel diseases and nutrition program at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA and medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. He then completed his residency training at Johns Hopkins University/ Sinai Hospital and his gastroenterology fellowship training at St. Louis University. Dr. Stephen was one of the earliest users of Double-Balloon enteroscopy in the United States and has had a high volume therapeutic small bowel enteroscopy practice for most of his career. He has extensive experience in all of the available devices for device-assisted enteroscopy, especially Double-Balloon enteroscopy, as well as in capsule endoscopy. His research interests include assessing methods to optimize endoscopic visualization of the small bowel and total small bowel enteroscopic, endoscopic therapeutics for small bowel Crohn's disease, and therapeutics for non IBD ulcerative diseases of the small intestine. Dr. Stephen is also a passionate advocate for addressing disparities in healthcare, improving health equity, and maximizing colon cancer screening rates in underserved populations. He is a Fellow of the ACG, AGA and ASGE and is an active member and has served on committees of all 3 GI societies.
