Bashar Qumseya, MD, MPH, was born and raised In Palestine. After finishing high school with distinction, he came to Beloit College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry, was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated summa cum laude with several awards. He attended medical school at St. George’s University, where he graduated with magna cum laude and was inducted into Iota Epsilon Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Thereafter, he completed two fellowships at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, one in Gastroenterology and Hepatogy and another in Advanced Endoscopy. Finally, he obtained a Master degree in of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health. In 2015, he was selected to be a member of the Standards of Practice Committee at the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). In 2020, I was selected as the Chair of this committee in charge of developing and publishing clinical practice guidelines, which set the standards for clinical practice in gastroenterology in the U.S. and throughout the world. His research interests are focused on Barrett's esophagus, endoscopic management of acid reflux, transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF), endoscopic management of obesity, and systematic reviews. He has over 170 publications, including peer-reviewed manuscripts, clinical guidelines, book chapters and meeting abstracts that have been featured in high-impact medical journals and national news outlets.
