Danny Issa, MD, is an interventional gastroenterologist and assistant clinical professor of medicine at UCLA. His clinical practice focuses on advanced endoscopy and obesity medicine. He has a particular interest in bariatric endoscopy and co-leads the endoscopic bariatric program at UCLA. After earning his medical degree from the University of Damascus, he completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Northwestern University, Chicago, and a residency in internal medicine at Cleveland Clinic - Fairview Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology & hepatology at Virginia Commonwealth University and an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College/New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he had extensive training on numerous innovative endoscopic procedures. Dr. Issa has published many peer-reviewed articles and has given lectures and presented his research at numerous national meetings. He is a Lead of the “beyond the scope” mentorship program at the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). He is a member of multiple national committees including Early Career Leadership Program, Public Relations, Educational Affairs (of ACG), Members Engagement (of ASGE), and others. He mentors and teaches medical students, both at UCLA and remotely, and runs a board review course for gastroenterology trainees at UCLA. He is an editorial board member of multiple journals including the GastoHep Advances, the Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology (CGH) journal of AGA, and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
