Gary R. Lichtenstein, MD, FACG, is Vice Chief, Gastrroenterology and Hepatology, Development and Philanthropy, Emeritus Director, IBD Center, Professor of Medicine, at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and University of PA School of Medicine. He earned his MD from Mount Sinai Medical School (NY,NY); internship / residency- internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center, and GI fellowship at HUP . His research focuses on investigational therapies for IBD. A Fellow of the ACG, AGA, and ACP, he is listed in "Best Doctors in America" (IBD), was Medical Secretary for ABIM, GI Section. In AGA, -Vice-Chair for the Clinical Practice Committee and Practice Economics Committee, and Chair- Clinical Practice Committee/Guidelines Committee. He served on ASGE committee on training, as well - ACG's Education Committee, Programs Committee, Nominations Committee, & Research Committee. He is Chair-Professional Education Committee, Crohn's Colitis Foundaton, member-National Scientific Advisory Committee for the past 3 yrs and for 3 upcoming yrs, Chair of membership committee and former Membership Committee chair of the Clinical Research Alliance, served on national grants review committee & national physician education committee. A longstanding member of the ACP and AMA he has received numerous awards, -the top specialist award at University of Pennsylvania, Louis A. Duhring Award, and Christina and Marie Lindback Award- top teaching award at University of Pennsylvania. He has received University of Pennsylvania's Medicine Housestaff teaching award, - "Penn Pearls Award," Gastroenterology Division teaching award (Sidney Cohen Teaching Award). He is in "The Best Doctors in America" (IBD), and Philadelphia Magazine numerous times. He received the CCFA National Clinical Scientific Achievement Award. In addition to being an invited lecturer at over 500 national / international conferences, symposia, institutional grand rounds, he authored > 500 peer-reviewed primary articles, chapters letters, and editorials, and presented more than 500 abstracts / 32 books.
