Galen Leung, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and a Gastroenterologist, Advanced Endoscopist, and Director of Endoscopy Continuous Quality Improvement for Penn Medicine. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Columbia University, then obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his internal medicine residency at New York University Langone Medical Center, his gastroenterology fellowship at Stony Brook University Hospital, and his advanced endoscopy fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In addition to taking care of patients with a variety of gastrointestinal issues, Dr. Leung also specializes in the management of complex pancreatic and biliary diseases, as well as gastrointestinal cancers. He has a clinical interest in gastrointestinal oncology/endoscopy and in emerging techniques in the endoscopic resection of complex neoplasia and early cancers in the gastrointestinal tract, which he has built the endoscopic submucosal dissection clinical and educational programs at Penn. He also has a particular interest in artificial intelligence development and its role as a guidance system in third space endoscopy, allowing highly complex procedures, such as endoscopic submucosal dissection and per oral endoscopic myotomy to be more accessible by gastroenterologists and to improve the efficacy and safety of these procedures. He has authored multiple publications and presented at national and international conferences. He is on the Editorial Board for the peer reviewed Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. For the American College of Gastroenterology, he has contributed to the Educational Affairs Committee and is an alumnus of the Early Career Leadership Program. He is also an active member of the ASGE and AGA.
