Prior to joining Austin Gastroenterology, Andy Tau, MD, graduated from Harvard University. He spent the next 11 years at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he completed medical school (MD), internal medicine residency, and GI fellowship. He served both as chief resident in internal medicine and chief fellow in gastroenterology. Dr.Tau was named the 2021 Travis County Medical Society (TCMS) Young Physician of the Year, while serving as a full-time GI hospitalist during the COVID pandemic. Dr. Tau continues to publish in major gastroenterology journals and presents at multiple meetings at both the local and national level. As a national expert in endoscopic hemostasis and advanced tissue closure, he has been invited and spoken at Grand Rounds at Harvard MGH, Baylor College of Medicine, UT San Antonio, and Thomas Jefferson University to name a few. He is invited annually to speak and teach on multiple topics at the largest scientific GI meetings in the USA. He is most proud of pioneering the use of endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) in Austin to help close life-threatening perforations and fistulas. In the clinic, Dr. Tau sees patients with all varieties of GI disorders. He has special interest in bile duct stones, fistula closure, feeding tubes, and anorectal disease, offering painless office-based hemorrhoidal banding for the practice. Dr. Tau was born in Corpus Christi, TX, and is a first generation Chinese American. He played football in college, now enjoying it as a spectator. He also loves spending time with his wife and two children around Austin. He is embarrassed to say that his main hobby is work-related: sharing, learning and developing endoscopic techniques and devices with other GIs around the world. His parents immigrated to the United States from Taiwan. Dr. Tau speaks Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin).
