Sara Horst, MD, MPH, FACG, is a Professor in the division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Horst completed her medical school and residency training at The Ohio State University and then went to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for Gastroenterology Fellowship and to obtain her Masters of Public Health. She joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2011. She is involved in clinical care of complex IBD care, clinical research, and teaching and mentoring medical students and housestaff. She is the medical director for VUMC Specialty Pharmacy, the VUMC Ambulatory Telehealth Medical Director, and Assistant Vice Chair of Digital Health for VUMC. Her research interests involve psychosocial outcomes in IBD, particularly how depressive symptoms are related to and affect outcomes in IBD. She is also interested in medication adherence and telehealth in IBD. Dr. Horst has extensively published in peer reviewed journals. She is active within several societies and is on the ACG's Professionalism Committee and is an associate editor for the American Journal of Gastroenterology. She is involved in clinical care improvement as an EPIC Physician Builder and is the chair of the National EPIC GI Steering Board.
