Steve Carpenter, MD, FACG, is professor & academic chair of internal medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, GA. He graduated from Georgia State University and the Medical College of GA. He completed internal medicine training at Emory University. He studied GI at the University of Michigan from 1993 -1996. Thereafter, he joined the Center for Digestive & Liver Health in Savannah, GA where he is a senior partner. Previously, he served as program director of the internal medicine residency at Memorial University Medical Center from 2006 - 2011. In 2013, he received the J. Willis Hurst bedside teaching award from the ACP. He was awarded MACP status by the ACP in 2015 due to his contributions to internal medicine education in Savannah, GA. He is a fellow of the AGA, ASGE, and ACG. He currently serves as the director of endoscopy at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. He was instrumental in the unit’s ASGE center of excellence designation. He was on the AGA government affairs committee from 2017 - 2019 and is the prior chair of the AGA political action committee. In 2019, his practice joined United Digestive. He served on the ACG education committee from 2014 - 2020 and was reappointed in 2021. He was chair of the ACG’s practice management abstract selection committee in 2020 and 2022. He has been the chair of the ACG peer review subcommittee since 2022.
