Mark B. Pochapin, MD, FACG, is the Sholtz-Leeds Professor of Gastroenterology, Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Vice-Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine / NYU Langone Health. In his clinical and research efforts, Dr. Pochapin is dedicated to the prevention, early detection, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers and to quality in endoscopy. As an endoscopist, Dr. Pochapin was one of the first to use linear EUS with FNA in New York and helped establish its use as a routine tool to assess pancreatic lesions. As an educator, Dr. Pochapin has received over 30 teaching awards, including twice receiving the Elliot Hochstein Teaching Award, an honor given at Weill Cornell Medical College by vote of the graduating class. Dr. Pochapin was recognized for his clinical excellence and leadership with the 2019 Master Clinician Award from NYU Langone Health, the 2022 Alumni Society Special Achievement award by Weill Cornell Medicine, and the 2022 Healio Lifetime Disruptor Award in Gastroenterology. For over 25 years, Dr. Pochapin has been a leader in the national effort to increase colorectal cancer screening, promote quality in colonoscopy and educate the public. He has held leadership positions with the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT), New York Citywide Coalition for Colon Cancer Control (C5), and served on the Board of Directors of the GI Quality Improvement Consortium (GIQuIC). Currently, Dr. Pochapin hosts two alternating weekly national radio broadcasts called "Chiefs Rounds" and “Medicine Grand Rounds” on SiriusXM Doctor Radio. Dr. Pochapin is a past president of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the ACG Board of Trustees. For his national leadership during the COVID pandemic, in 2020 he became the recipient of the ACG “Beacon Award“ for “outstanding leadership in extraordinary times."
